“Greetings & Welcome to a New Season, Its time I tell you a story. When I originally started my photography shows I began with public speaking about my craft while exhibiting my lens on people, community, identity, and belonging in Boston. The hard ships are what got me here. But my passion, determination and belief in others is a point I carry with joy. There is a difference between a calling and a career. I believe I was called to create. My hiphop book explains how I turned my passion into a career and how my experiences have been Turing Points to a duty.

Being in the PRC Mentorship program is a full circle moment for me. I remember winning The Constructed award in 2012. This was a little big deal to me for my “Adidas Flame” Photograph using Photoshop and I was encouraged to do more work like this; commercial work, my work was considered bold and my editing style was a pop in detail. I was excited because I could be wanted for my skills.

This is to say Im not doing commercial work yet because I haven’t finished telling this story.

And sometimes when you really into something you miss some other points, but I assure you Jaypix is here to create timeless art and meaningful stories. These works hold value and bring attention to the person or place or thing in focus. I am doing what I love and self mastery is a thing. It’s taking me places and now we can enter a new dimension.

Turning Point

My grandmother is the roots of my identity.

She grew up in Boston and spent her life helping people and understanding the ways of life. When I think about where my curiosity comes from, where my desire to understand people comes from, my community and self worth, I think about my grandmother. She always believed there was something worth learning. one day My grandmother asked me asked me a simple question.

"How are you going to make money doing this?"

Looking back,The question really was, How was I going to build a life around it? I did not know then but I was building a foundation.....

In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, the Photographic Resource Center (PRC) launched a six-month mentorship program pairing four early-career photographers with four established artists for sustained one-on-one mentorship, critical feedback, and professional development. The 2026 Mentorship Fellows are alina balseiro, Jaypix Belmer, Libby O’Neill, and Nick Ortoleva, who were paired with mentors Rashod Taylor, Jess T. Dugan, Tommy Kha, and Jillian Guyette.

The program culminates in an exhibition at the PRC gallery, on view September 11–October 18, 2026, featuring work developed by the fellows during their mentorships.

The program will also be celebrated at PRC’s 50th Anniversary Gala on October 17, where all four mentors and four fellows will be present as honored guests.

Youth Photo Program @ Bnn was a Great Summer. Thank you for ALL for your curiosities and attention. Everyone had a unique vision of community that culminated a 40 piece exhibit that is currently on view.
